Thank you Mr. Nonsense, I have a new love. AIMES is the moniker used by Brooklyn-based artist, Aman Ellis. Yes there is synth du jour, but the more magnetizing element is the ability to balance such a delicate air and so many rich, gorgeous layers. His Facebook page places his sound into a Space Hype genre, describing a forthcoming EP as “Think lush Roland Juno 60s, arpeggiated minimoogs, thick basslines, and washed out vocals.” This feels like part of the sound that shows the evolution of chillwave, although it’s not necessarily categorized as that. “Somewhere In Space We Hang Suspended” shows a propensity to produce the melodic, song-oriented Washed Out style with the more ambient, exploratory Com Truise proclivities.
