A DJ moniker always carries a certain expectation. There is a complete incongruity from the name DJ Dingo Susi and his output. I was pleasantly met with a minimal, post-punk sound that effectively conjures Joy Division and Bauhaus. DJ Dingo Susi (Benjamin Wild) is a German musician that releases material on digital, Knoxville, TN-based label, Dracula Horse. It’s simply, but smartly layered, creating a meditative flow just ever so interrupted by the calm, even a little cold, vocals. “In Retrospect” is on his new EP, Never EP. As disaffected as it feels, there’s this warm current that builds, begging for more insight. Those warmer moments begin to bridge a gap between the Joy Division influence into a New Order one . . . go figure. There is nothing stark about the offering as a whole, Wild understands hook and melody and even explorative guitar play. The four songs on the EP are all solid and can be purchased on Bandcamp (name your own price).
