Despite my minor disenchantment, I am still a huge fan of virtually anything Islands has ever done and will ever do. Even though this is a departure from their catalogue, I can see where he’s going. Every album has had a drastically different sound and a rotating group of contributing players. This time it’s severely stripped down and clear: drums, keys, bass, and guitar; all in a manner that easily conjures thoughts of Wilco. It’s so spartan that maybe this is more of an atoll than an island. A Sleep & A Forgetting comes out 2/14/2012.
