If this sounds familiar in some way, it’s because this is one half of Vampire Weekend. Rostam Batmanglij (or just Rostam, though he should keep the last name cos it says “Batman” in it) has struck out on his own. You can see easily how Vampy Weeks would have a completely different sound if not for his contribution, particularly rhythmically. He’s bending genres here like he has before, but this feels more personal than any VW song I’ve ever heard. It’s not a story, it’s his story.
